Original Christmas songs and contemporary arrangements of traditional carols, selected as a “top of the tree pick” by the San Jose Mercury News and featured on NPR.org’s All Songs Considered Open Mic in December 2004.

Starry, Starry Night was the first commercial release from San Francisco Bay Area acoustic guitar/vocal duo Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon. Testimony to the eclectic nature of Bev & Greg’s music, on this disc you’ll hear everything from sweet folk to wild country, from bluesy R&B to smooth jazz instrumentals.

This disc celebrates the many moods of Christmas, from the joy of singing, to missing loved ones, to remembering the less fortunate during the holidays. And through it all, there’s a distinct sound. Groove driven guitar and the harmonies that Bev and Greg are best known for.
Four tracks are originals, four are arrangements or adaptations of traditional carols and two are covers of beautiful expressions of Christmas – one by Bay Area folk favorite Carol McComb, and another by Steve Weisberg, made popular by John Denver. And then there’s the bonus track. Jingle Bells as done by Bev & Greg’s burgeoning young musicians in first year piano and band.

Greg’s contemporary guitar arrangements of traditional carols like O Come All Ye Faithful, I Wonder as I Wander and Silent Night will set your festive mood. If I Can’t Sing with You This Christmas and Christmas for Cowboys will warm your heart. Forget About Me and The Christmas Star will remind you to pour yourself out to those in need during the holidays. Everybody’s Singing’ ‘bout Christmas and While Shepherds Watched will just make you feel good, and the title track, Starry, Starry Night, is a humble telling of the traditional Christmas story.
